The Crank
- First off we have to say well done to Cam Brown for a stirring win in Taupo on Saturday. Ironman New Zealand is definitely his. There will be no one to get near him in this record. The women's race is the same with Jo Lawn.
- Speaking of Jo Lawn she made a lot of the male professionals look ridiculous on the weekend. 7th overall was a brilliant effort. The other male pros who were passed might need to take a look at their training efforts. Sure races go wrong but only 6 guys beat her! Talk about blowing the 8% rule clean out of the water.
- On the 8% rule there has been a lot of feedback from Mitch's article that was published last week. There has been a load of press about this but to be honest I'm surprised the pros have not banded together to form some sort of association or union.
- It was mentioned to The Crank that the Lawn/ Brown dynasty at Ironman New Zealand was just plain boring. That the two of them have to essentially just show up to win and that the racing is fairly mundane. That sounds like a an interesting argument but seriously both these athletes have weathered the storm of those who have tried. Instead of talking about how 'boring' this is appreciate the wins.
- Abu Dhabi is on this weekend. The distances are just plain nutty but this race has pulled some serious athletes. Throw enough money and they will come. And who can blame them? Triathlon is not a sport where you are going to make the huge sporting money. In fact the prize money offered up at most events is laughable with the amount of work these guys have to do.
- When you look at John Daly and see the prize money he has made throughout his career is makes us laugh. Triathlon is a sport where money is made off the course not on it.
