Are we all liars?
straight up how they are going? Every triathlete I meet when I ask them how they are or more importantly how their form is lies!! They all say "not doing much" and then they go smash you on the track or drop you on the next climb. Now I don't mind this because playing possum is often a fun thing to do. There is nothing funnier during training than when the group's quiet achiever shows up and systematically dismantles the group by caning them in a hard set. Those athletes do make me laugh. But the ones that really get me are the 'phone book' carriers. You know who I am talking about, the athletes who carry the phone book of excuses. Injury, illness or mechanicals are the favorites of the 'phone book' carrier. I love this crew too. Even a reasonable performance by them is accompanied by the raft of excuses. Show me an athlete who says my performance was sub par because I was not ready and I'll show an athlete who is honest!!

I know a tri-guy who says he's done noooo training, but goes out and does an IM anyway ... and finishes (after all, it's a mental thing) ... yeah riiiight, spare me!
by phil (author), 01 May 2008Yes the pros are good at that... still it is great for a laugh!
by Tissa, 30 April 2008Ha! Damn right, and the pro's are the worst for it. They come out, smash the rest of the pro field, make the age groupers look like they are going backwards, then proceed to tell the post race interview how crap their training has been going - they haven't run further than the corner in months, haven't seen a pool in weeks, and to top it off their seat post snapped at the 10km mark! How does a seat post just snap anyway??
