Rookie Report - Kat Williamson's Sheppparton Half Ironman
Up until a few weeks ago, Kat Williamson was a half Ironman rookie. Taking up the half Ironman challenge two weekends ago, Kat got through her race in fine style and had quite the day out along the way. While we tend to shine the spotlight on the merchants of speed at the pointy end of the field, it's the age groupers who are the heart and soul of the triathlon. Well done Kat on a great day out and thanks for letting us in on it. Tell us about your latest racing exploits, be it as a first-time novice or well-versed veteran at feedback@firstoffthebike.com.

MoreTri talk - taking it to the street
If you ever doubted www.firstoffthebike.com's standing as a serious, hard-hitting triathlon site, just check this out. Last weekend we hit the Noosa streets to get some answers into two of triathlon's biggest questions - the legalities (not to mention fashion concerns) of compression socks and the age old chestnut (pun intended) of the appropriateness of Speedos! It's more of our usual cheesy style, while the last guy we spoke to left us all speechless ... talk about stealing the show! Enjoy ... and let us know what questions you'd like to see us pose in our next outing.
MoreThe art of transition
When you watch a tri race, so many times you see just how wrong it can go in transition. Athletes can goof over the smallest things - from helmets to sunnies to even losing their bikes when they race big events. Courtney Atkinson, Kris Gemmel, Emma Snowsill and Emma Moffatt are all merchants of speed who are well versed in the art of the transition. For them, a simple slip up could be the difference between needlessly expending precious energy or not.
