Former World Champion caught out!

Yesterday The International Triathlon Union (ITU) announced it has imposed a two-year ban on Dmitriy Gaag, a triathlete from Kazakhstan, after committing an anti-doping rule violation in an out-of-competition doping control test in Des Moines, United States on June 20, 2008. The former World Champion joins the list of athletes to fall foul of the strict drug code enforced by the ITU. Gaag, currently ranked 17th in the world, will not be missed as his career looks over.

McEwen's signing had to happen

The transfer season seems to be alive and well in Europe. The Silence Lotto team has had an up and down few months. Another second place in the world's biggest race would have had the team's brains trust thinking of how to maximise their man Cadel Evans. Well Robbie McEwen might have just helped them out a little. The problem is that Silence Lotto need some cash and Robbie would not have been a cheap rider to have on the roster. And for good reason too. McEwen wins a stack of races every season. But his recent signing with the Russian Tinkoff squad might be doing everyone a service.

It's marathon season!

It's marathon season here in Australia. The two big races are Sydney and Melbourne and there are plenty of runners up for the challenge. And let's not forget the little marathon on Kona next month. Tri goes TV

Less then 24 hours after the completion of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games triathlon, today the ITU announced an innovative new platform for the sport by establishing a pioneering new series that will is hoped to take triathlon to new heights. The new format will consist of six World Championship events plus a Grand Final every year, extending the current single World Championships event into a series.
