Australia's triathlon head coach Bill Davoren said that there is limited window every four years for athletes to have their moment. It sounds like a really obvious statement but often we only concentrate on the moment and not at the precision it takes to get the human body to perform at its' best. Resident wordsmith Campbell Maffett has been glued to all the action and checks in with his thoughts on this very idea.

Few things in sport inspire more passion than Ironman footage. While these snaps started off as mere news reports, it all changed when the majesty of the sport began to be realised. The first inclination that this was going to be a special event was the now famous crawl to the finish. The crawl of course took place in the 1982 Hawaiian Ironman, where Julie Moss made a name for herself for such a valiant fight to the finish line. So this got us thinking around the old firstoffthebike.com shed and we threw the idea around of our top 10 Ironman video moments. You know, the ones that made you cringe or the ones that made you cry for the passion, humility and sheer guts.

Time and time again we see awesome athletes not go the full distance because of the dreaded drop off in form. Campbell Maffett, one of Australia's best age group athletes and running coach offers his take on this.

The Olymics are the biggest race of the year for the ITU athletes. This season has been a series of stepping stones towards the ultimate prize in ITU triathlon racing. The final hit out in Austria last weekend saw some predictable results but also saw the last shuffle of the ITU deck and a deal out of the new World Rankings before the Olympics come and go. But will form and points in the season long competition translate into Olympic gold?

Australia has produced some amazing Triathletes. From the sport's inception into the country it has been embraced and loved by so many. We were sitting round the offices of firstoffthebike.com (ok we were down at the pub talking/arguing this point) and we decided to compile our list of the best Australian triathletes in history. We took into consideration their international record and what they had achieved over their career. So retirement is not a pre requisite for this one! We also crossed all distance boundaries so it was an all in look at who is the best.
