Keat out of Ironman WA
Rebekah Keat has withdrawn from Ironman Western Australia. Keat, the race favorite and event drawcard pulled out of the race this morning citing injury which has come after what has been a hectic and punishing schedule in 2009.
Keat's season was marred by the much hyped DQ in Kona and Ironman Western Australia was supposed to cap off what has been a season of near misses. This puts a significant hole in the women's field and throws the race right open. An on song Keat is a force and would have been hard to beat.
Another casualty of a long season is age grouper turned pro Kelly Jarrett. Jarrett, who debuted in Ironman racing in Australia earlier this season was supposed to line up in Western Australia but has withdrawn. It has been a tough season for Jarrett as she has struggled to match the pace of professional racing. Jarrett will look to retool over the Australian Summer to comeback ready to go in 2010.
While this is a blow to the race it is by no means a catastrophe. Keat will be missed but all this will do is open the field right up and lead to interesting day in Busselton.
