XPD - race or adventure?

Last weekend saw the completion of the 5th edition of the Australian XPD expedition adventure race. The race is the Australian leg of the Adventure Racing World Series and a qualifying event for the World Championships, which Australia will host next year in Tasmania. But is this a race or is it still an adventure?
