Perkins the powerful - Austral win

Shane Perkins completed the rare feat for a track sprinter winning the prestigious 2000m Austral Wheelrace at Hisense Arena. The distance was no problem for Perkins who held off a fast finishing Azizul Awang and Australian Institute of Sport rider Jason Niblett.

Gatorade Triathlon Series - Race 5 Elwood

The first thing you notice about the Gatorade Triathlon Series' (GTS) race at Elwood is that it is massive! 2400+ athletes descended on what has become on the most popular races of the series. The first thing that competitors would have noticed was the crimson sun. No doubt effected by the devastating bush fires of last week the sun served as a stark reminder to the city folk that the country was not in good shape.

Geelong 70.3

The forces of nature were toying with athlete minds for this weekend's Geelong 70.3. While Kona boasts the artwork of the Goddess Pele (Goddess of the Volcano), surely another equally formidable deity was at work on the city of Geelong as Saturday saw temperatures soar to 45+ degrees celcius only to be followed by a cool, then treacherously wet, race day. If the school of thought that triathlon had lost its' adventurous streak was attempting a comeback, today's 70.3 race in Geelong teed up the theory and smacked it straight back down the fairway.

Meares back to best

2004 Olympic Champion Anna Meares reconfirmed her status in her pet event with an emphatic win in the 500 metre time trial on the final day of competition at the 2009 Australian Track Championships at Adelaide's Super-drome.

Moffatt starts year with a win

Olympic bronze medallist Emma Moffatt made a golden start to her 2009 campaign in taking out the Caloundra Triathlon this morning at Golden Beach. Dan Wilson made a triumphant return to racing for the year to claim his second win in this series. In her first race this year the Australian had little trouble in accounting for her opposition over the 400m swim, 15km cycle and 4km run but admits these super sprint races can be harder than her preferred Olympic distance.
