Queensland's Gatorade Series
The pair making it back to back wins in the series when they posted their maiden wins in round two at Robina.
This event was a sell out prior to today’s race with just over 1700 competitors taking part across the three distances.
Polson proving his win in round two was no fluke and beating out the 2008/09 series champion Adam Fitzakerley in the process. Polso finished on top after a fierce dual with Fitzakerley, Justin Cole, Benjamin Shaw, Nicholas Hull and Cecil Taylor over the 750m swim, 20km cycle and 5km run in testing conditions as the temperature soared.
The group were all together coming into the final transition and was a frantic dash to try and get the early lead onto the run. But it was Polson who handled the conditions best, posting the fastest run split (15:37) to take his second win in the series ahead of Fitzakerley, Cole grabbed his first podium in the series hanging on for third.
“It’s amazing to have backed up the win from Robina, I’m in pretty good shape but that was a tough day,” said Polson.
In the women’s event Crowley had to work her way into the race after a slow start, exiting the swim 35 seconds behind Melissa Trims and South African Ashley Finaughty.
Trims made the most of her lead and opened up a gap over Finaughty in the early laps. Midway through the bike Crowley had moved her way through the field to lead. Once she hit the front she didn’t look back going onto record the quickest run split (17:14) easily accounting for her opposition in the end. The big mover through the run leg was Kirralee Seidel, running herself into second place ahead of Finaughty and a fading Trims.
The day also included the NAB Enticer Series for the not so serious (300m swim, 10km cycle, 2.5km run) and the increasingly popular Courier-Mail Kool Kids Triathlon for 7-11 years of age including a ‘first timers’ category.
This concluded the 2009 season. Racing resumes at Robina on January 17.
