BRW Series is go.
The BRW is an institution on the Australian triathlon scene. It has been responsible for putting triathlon into the minds of the corporate world for many seasons and each year over 15,000 competitors are involved all around the country.
This season's series started in Melbourne on a cold and blustery day. The southerly winds were always going to test the athletes. Race organisers did offer up the option of foregoing the swim. After all the day is supposed to be a positive experience and there were many first timers in the field.
Among the 5,500 people racing were a few names from the triathlon world. Chris Legh was seen zooming around the course. The Ironman winner and star of a Gatorade commercial was spotted a few times around the course. Local pros Josh Rix was also there as he prepares for Ironman Australia. AFL star Matthew Richardson was also seen pounding the pavement. The former superstar still looked like he could take the field too.
Winners on the day were the team from VLine in the men's and Deloitte in the women's.
Some other interesting observations from the day;
- The guy wearing the speedos with the skin colour triangles on the back. He looked like he was wearing chaps.. priceless.
- The finish line antics.. handstands, champagne.. all we needed was a proposal!
- The corporate colours competition was another standout on the day with the crew from SKI
- Getting 5,500 athletes through the course in only a few short hours. Organisational genius.
- The bike compund. Filled with the bikes worth thousands and those that were found on the way!
- A tough day at the office with the howling South Wester. Well done to all who got out there.
