Macca and McGlone win at Wildflower
It was four years ago that Macca had his last race at Wildflower but he was as sharp as ever as he left a raft of good athletes in his wake. Macca has never missed out at Wildflower and the weekend's result made it a perfect four from four. McGlone has been equally as successful at Wildflower now going three from three.
The weather was perfect for the athletes as both the professional fields set off for a gruelling race. Bjorn Andersson and Chris Lieto took it to the field on the bike and blew the other men to pieces as they enjoyed the day out. The lead out onto the run to the other favorites hovered around the six minute mark. But that was not a deterrent to Macca who smashed the run, and the rest of the field, in 1.15 to record a stunning victory over Eneko Llanos and a tiring Chris Lieto. McCormack's win now makes him equal as the most successful athlete at Wildflower.
The women's event saw McGlone with company on the bike all the way through to the run transition. Leanda Cave was having a day out too and was proving hard to shake. But McGlone has it pretty well wired these days and a 1.25 half marathon saw the gap open and the victory sealed.
