Ironman Germany's clash of the titans
Men's Race
Chris McCormack is the finest athlete in the world, it's as simple as that. He is the benchmark for other athletes. When you look at his pedigree it will become the stuff of legends. It is well documented that he wants the Ironman Germany and Roth titles this year. Crazy? Yes for anyone except a guy with this much talent. But for Sunday he will be the athlete with the big target on his back. And there is a whole group of athletes who would like nothing better than to smash Macca and take an Ironman title for themselves. Faris Al Sultan heads the list of guys who want to beat Macca. But he is not alone. Throw in Cam Brown, Eneko and Hecktor Lanos and Normann Stadler and that is group that can light up this course. Like in Hawaii the swim becomes the crucial element because of the speed that some of these guys can run. Macca will be hoping to have a gap out of T2 so he can 'ease up' through the back end of the marathon, as much as anyone can at the top level. Surely an eye to Roth will be in the back of his mind. And while all the talk is about McCormack, it should not be forgotten just how talented this field is. Strap yourself in folks, this ones going to be good! Our predictions for Ironman Germany are;

Women's Race
Chrissie Wellington is building the reputation as both a hard racer and hard trainer. Talk to any one of her training partners and you will find out how hard she pushes herself to be the best. Race day would seem like breeze after some of the days she has put in making herself the premier Ironman racer on the planet. Wellington was the standout at Ironman Australia and will be the standout in Germany as well. Nicole Leder looks like one of the few women who might pose a challenge to the Wellington charge.
